A man living near the farms and woods of East Fremont Street is continuing his tradition of going all out with decorations this Christmas.
Some 15,000 lights are displayed along with 284 figures as holiday music plays at the 2080 E. Fremont St. home of Neil Unger. The only thing missing is some wintry precipitation.
Unger tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL that a little snowfall would tie the whole thing together.
“Well, I’m ready for snow anytime, and I’m probably in the minority,” Unger says. “It would really add to the ambiance and to the spirit of what the display is trying to present.”
He says the message is more than just a fun display for passersby — although it is certainly that, as well. A portion of Unger’s yard is dedicated to the religious themes of the Christmas holiday.
“The centerpiece is the nativity scene,” Unger says, “which is the center of the display. And several other pieces from toy soldiers to carolers to even a Santa and reindeer taking off and if you watch closely, you’ll notice that the reindeer are actually moving back and forth.”
Unger says he will turn the lights on around 5:30 til 9:30 at night through the early new year.
