James “Jim” Ray McCormick, 85 of Knoxville and formerly of Maquon, passed away at 7:08 p.m. Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.He was born May 26, 1930, the son of Charles Alexander McCormick and Zelda Lee Howe McCormick. He married Ruth Marie Walkemeyer on August 25, 1952 in Maquon. She preceded him in death on December 9, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Jane Zimmerman, and four adult siblings.
Jim is survived by his children, Steven (Karen) McCormick of Galesburg, Cheri Corbin-Shafer of Kankakee, Bonny (Randy) Bellinger of Monmouth and Ted McCormick of Galesburg; twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Dean, May and June.
He attended Gilson schools. He farmed and did custom feed work in the Maquon area. He was a member of the Maquon United Methodist Church. He was well known in the area for his rug making and broom making. In his earlier years he enjoyed participating in area tractor pulls.
Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2015 at the Maquon Cemetery. Rev. Krey Leesman will officiate. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Monday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
