When the currently under-construction Hy-Vee gas station on Henderson Street opens for business early next year, it’s expected to employ about 20 people.
Matt Streit is the store director and Hy-Vee Group Vice President. He tells WGIL the gas station will open with a manager, two-full time positions and 10 to 15 part timers.
“Whether we add another full timer or two will depend on traffic and stuff like that,” Streit says. “We’re looking at 18, 19 employees.”
Hy-Vee Communications Manager Tina Potthoff says in an email the gas station is expected to open in the former Long John Silver’s location by the end of January.
The 3,100 square-foot gas station will include five dispensers and ten fueling locations.
Potthoff says the exterior walls are up and interior walls along with walk-in coolers are currently being installed. Drywall installation is expected to be done in the coming weeks.
Streit adds that crews have been pouring concrete in the parking lot this week, but were slowed down by the rain.
“They’re going to work on it here the next couple days,” he says. “But we’re supposed to have good weather for some period time, 30 and 40, so we should be alright.”
Business acquirement records show the location was purchased by Hy-Vee in July for $659,000.
The Long John Silver’s franchise was in operation from 1994 through June of 2014.
