Rosenberg, Bill

William “Bill” Rosenberg, 77, of Galesburg, died at 3:35 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2015, in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.He was born November 13, 1938, in Galesburg, the son of Glenn and Florence (Hatch) Rosenberg. He married Debra Thomas July 29, 1973 in Roseville, Illinois.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debra; two sons, Marcus (and Gina) Rosenberg of O’Fallon, Missouri and Troy (and Amelia) Rosenberg of Clinton, Illinois; five grandchildren, Alexa, Avery, Maddox, Hensley, and Everett; one granddaughter on the way; a brother, Larry (and Rita) Rosenberg of Fort Ashby, West Virginia; a sister, Sandra (and Jerry) Waggerman of Branson, Missouri; his mother-in-law, Shirley Watson of Galesburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Ronald, and Glenn Rosenberg; and two sisters, Beverly McGee and Patricia Morgan.

Bill was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1956. He worked as a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C. for seven years. He was stationed at the Rotunda when President Kennedy was assassinated.   Bill returned to Galesburg and worked at Lakis Ford for several years beginning in 1969. He was a salesman and sales manager. For the last three years of his career, he worked at Bruce Foote in Monmouth, retiring in 2006.

Bill was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg.   He served on the Pastor Parish Committee, was an usher, and drove the church van. He was a member of the Association of Retired Police Officers.

He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Bill was very proud of his sons and loved being “Grampy” to his grandchildren.

Bill served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1958 and was in the Coast Guard Reserves for several years.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Pastor Mary Runge will officiate the funeral and military rites will be offered. Burial will follow in East Linwood Cemetery.
