
The Galesburg police department responded last night to Cottage Hospital where emergency room personnel were treating a Galesburg man who had sustained a gunshot wound.
Police reports indicate a 20-year-old man was taken to the North Kellogg Street hospital just before midnight this morning. When police arrived, they observed a wound on the man’s leg that appeared to be from a small caliber handgun.
ER staff said the bullet had passed through the other side of the man’s leg.
The victim said he was buying alcohol at Grand Liquor when several vehicle’s pulled up and the occupants began yelling.
He said two gun shots were heard. After realizing he had been shot, the victim had another person give him a ride to the emergency room.
A witness said the altercation took place a couple blocks west of Grand Liquor and the victim had been involved in a fight with those involved.
The sound of two gunshots was corroborated by other witnesses.
The victim was unable to identify anyone involved in the shooting. Investigation is ongoing.
