
Mrs. Loretta M. Werry, 94, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 6:28 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 in Seminary Manor in Galesburg.She was born October 8, 1921 in Alexis, the daughter of James and Christena (Miller) Stivers. She married John T. Werry Jr. on December 14, 1974 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2006.
Loretta is survived by her cousin; Linda (John) Stoner of Du Quoin, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John.
She was a teacher at Wataga Grade School, Knox County schools, and retired from Silas Willard School in District 205 after 38 years. She graduated from Galesburg High School and Western Illinois University. She had lived in Galesburg all her life. Loretta was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Galesburg. She was the past president of the St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary. She became active in the Auxiliary in World War II, became a member in 1980, and was an officer for eight years. She was a charter member and first president of Beta Eta Chapter of Illinois Alpha Delta Kappa Teacher’s Sorority and a member of MG Chapter of PEO.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016 in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Vince Rohn officiating. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church or the Knox County Humane Society.
