A number of items will go before Galesburg City Council tonight.
The city announced last month that Rotary Park would receive upgrades like a splash pad, walking paths and an ice rink which were agreed upon in 2014.
The state budget impasse delayed those projects, a delay which will inadvertently increase the cost of the project by about $71,000. Council documents say the cost increase is due to changes in labor force pay, material increases and having to change sub-contractors.
A $332,000 grant will pair with funds raised by the Galesburg Rotary Club to encompass the cost of the $660,000 project. If aldermen approve the motion tonight, the club would pick up the additional cost.
In other news, a consent agenda vote would allow area sportsmen and women to honor a longtime area fish biologist with a monument at the Lake Storey boat ramp.
Ken Russell managed the Lake Storey fishery and educated children for over 50 years. The project would be fully funded by donations.
Allowing parts of a 200 year old burr oak tree blown over in a July storm to be sold will be voted upon as well. Council meets tonight at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
