Protests, riots and a city enforced curfew continue in Charlotte, North Carolina, following the controversial police involved shooting of 43-year-old Keith Scott.
Amidst the chaos, a Galesburg native and former assistant finance director is heading the city of Charlotte’s businesses and work force.
In an exclusive interview with WGIL, interim Charlotte City Manager Ron Kimble says what is happening in his city is extremely difficult to deal with.
“This situation pains us very greatly,” Kimble says. “This situation is very much controversial. There are different perspectives in the community, but we are aligned on one thing; this is not who Charlotte really is.”
Kimble adds, “we feel for the family who has experienced this loss, but we also feel for the officers who were involved in this shooting and we’ve got to keep both perspectives in mind as we go forward in these challenging times.”
Kimble lived in Galesburg for 29 years, returning to the city for eight years after graduating from the University of Kansas.
He is also the son of former Galesburg Mayor Robert Kimble, who served from 1977 to 1981.
