Galesburg Police say Steele School went under a self-imposed soft lock-down Thursday afternoon after a student reported spotting a clown behind the school.
GPD searched the area and have “no confirmation” there was ever anyone in a clown costume in the area.
Just to be safe an officer did monitor students as they were leaving school in the afternoon.
Various social media threats against other schools have been made by users disguised as clowns as of late.
Yesterday, GPD Capt. Rod Riggs said no specific threats involving clowns have been made locally.
Today’s claim remains unfounded.
