An area car club in charge of both the River 2 River Car Cruise and the Railtown Rumble car shows in Galesburg are giving back to the city.
Representatives of the New Limited Rods of Western Illinois group presented Galesburg City Council with a $2,000 check at last night’s meeting.
The donation will go directly to the parks and recreation department.
Group member Pam Bowles tells WGIL the money was earmarked to help children in the city.
“We earmarked it for the swim lessons, the nature course that they have there, because we understand that they don’t have any funding for that — everybody is a volunteer and everything is donated,” Bowles says. “Then, we wanted to earmark some of that money any type of equipment they might need. Volleyballs, baseballs, basketballs, bats.”
Bowles says Galesburg is gracious each year when the group asks the city for money to help put on their events. That generosity, as she puts it, was the reason for giving back.
Bowles adds their events are growing each and every year, which requires more financial aid. New Limited Rods of Western Illinois was founded in 1980. Both River 2 River and the Railtown Rumble are held annually each summer.
