
Mrs. Phyllis L. Hanson, 86, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 5:05 am Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Seminary Manor Nursing Home.
She was born November 11, 1930 in Galesburg, the daughter of Phillip and Elsie Granberg. She married Gene Kellogg Woolley on January 27, 1952 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1977. She later married W. Dale Hanson on June 10, 2006 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2014.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Lee (and Betsy) Woolley, and their children, James Gene Woolley and Anna Sophia Woolley; her daughter, Lisa (and Larry) Shillock Woolley and their child, Robin Shillock. She is also survived by stepchildren Ron Hanson, Terry Hanson, Jon Hanson, Rodney (and Cheryl) Hanson, Linnea (and Mark) Flesher, Linda (and Gary) Hanson-Dorst, Scott Hanson, and their eight children and six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and three brothers, Charles, Howard and Paul Granberg.
Phyllis worked as a nurse at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She later worked in the office of Woolley’s Aerospray and also for Kamerer, Blucker and Kneer. She graduated from Galesburg High school in 1948 and Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing in 1951. Phyllis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing Alumnae Association and volunteered at Cottage Corner/Community Treasures. Phyllis enjoyed flying and had her private pilot’s license. She was a member of the Ninety-Nines Women’s Pilot organization.
Phyllis’ children want you to know how deeply they loved their mother and how much they appreciated her love, sense of humor and abounding optimism. She was a God-loving nurse, pilot, wife, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. She will be immeasurably missed.
Funeral services are scheduled for 9:00 am Friday, September 15, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Frank Langholf will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
