Battalion Chief Brad Stevenson will serve as the interim Fire Chief, while the City continues interviewing potential candidates for the next Galesburg Fire Chief. Battalion Chief Stevenson has served with the Galesburg Fire Department for 30 years. He has been 2nd in Command since 2009 and is the Team Leader of the Hazardous Materials Response Team. During his career, he has held the ranks of Firefighter, Captain, and Battalion Chief, as well as being the department’s training officer for many years. “The last thing they’re doing is on November 8th there is a panel with maybe three candidates left to go through that,” Said retiring Chief Tom Simkins. “Then an administrative panel with the City Manager, the City Attorney, and our Human Resources person Jessica – who is wonderful. Then I would look around the 10th or so of November they might kind of know who is going to be the next Fire Chief.” Of the three finalists for the Fire Chief position, two are current GFD employees. The interviews with these candidates will occur in the middle of November.
