It was announced last week that 74th State Representative Dan Swanson has been appointed to the Lyme Disease Task Force. The announcement was made by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin. Swanson has been a strong advocate for patients suffering from tick-borne illnesses. He spearheaded the measure in the spring to mandate insurance coverage for long-term antibiotic therapy for a person with a tick-borne illness. The legislation Swanson led was the “Lauryn Russell Lyme Disease Prevention and Protection Law” – named after a Mercer County Junior High School student. Swanson hosted “Tick Talk 101” educational events in the fall. He plans to host additional outreach events in 2020 throughout the 74th district. Swanson said, “Getting the word out about Lyme Disease and it’s sometimes-complicated diagnosis and treatment has been of critical importance to me on behalf of the patients I represent in the 74th District.”
