Carl “Sam” Nyman, 87, of Galesburg, Illinois died 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Memorial Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.

He was born July 7, 1933, in Galesburg to Carl Howard and Clara Etta (Molburg) Nyman. He married Jean Streitmatter on August 16, 1959, in Peoria, Illinois. His wife of 61 years, Jean, survives.

Also surviving is a son, Keith Nyman of Galesburg, and a granddaughter, Lexie Nyman of Galesburg.

Sam graduated from Galesburg High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.   He worked for Wagner Printing Company for a few years and then May Company in Galesburg. He then was an expediter and purchasing agent for Thomas Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 1995. He and his family also owned and operated Nyman Harvest Corner from 1986 until his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. Sam loved working on antique automobiles. He was a proud owner of several antique cars and was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Western Illinois Antique Automobile Club, and Mississippi Valley Region of Antique Automobile Club of America.

Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17, 2020, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Due to guidelines associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and facemasks will be required with limited occupancy. A private graveside service will be held at a later date with Rev. Ann Elyse Van Winkle officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg with military honors conducted by the VFW/Legion/Amvets Honor Guard.
