On Sunday, March 21st, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Home Boulevard in reference to a physical domestic that had occurred. Police met with the pregnant female victim who said she, along with her child, were riding on North Henderson Street with 28-year old Joshua Rias of Galesburg who was intoxicated and driving at a high rate of speed. When the victim attempted to take the keys from Rias, he struck her numerous times. A witness, who heard a commotion, came outside and saw Rias strike the victim with a knee to her leg and “choke her.” The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center for medical treatment. Police caught up with Rias on foot on Carl Sandburg Drive and he was detained. He was charged with Domestic Battery, Aggravated Battery to a Pregnant Person, Battery, and a valid Lake County, Illinois Warrant.
