Galesburg Cottage Hospital says they are now able to perform robotic-assisted knee replacement surgeries.
Dr. Gregory Schierer and Dr. Craig Wilson have been performing total knee replacements for several months using Zimmer Biomet’s ROSA Knee System.
A release from Cottage Hospital says that total joint replacement is one of the most performed elective procedures.
Schierer says knee surgery utilizing the ROSA Knee System offers a number of advantages while being minimally invasive.
The system provides data that assists with complex decision-making and allows surgeons to use technology to control and use surgical instruments.
This helps the surgeons work with greater precision and flexibility.
Dr. Wilson says the decision to have a joint replacement is “often a difficult one” but he believes these robotic-assisted surgeries could make that an easier decision.
