Galesburg Cottage Hospital will no longer be able to accept Medicare for in-patient services.

A termination notice was given on Monday that the agreement between Galesburg Cottage Hospital and the Secretary of Health and Human Services has been severed.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says in the notice they terminated their agreement because of Cottage not being in compliance with four different sections of the conditions of participation in Medicare.

Those include rules that cover the hospitals’ governing body, patient rights, nursing services, and physical environment.

Anna J. Olson, Branch Manager with the CMS says Medicare will not make payment for inpatient hospital services furnished to patients admitted after Dec. 27.

Patients who were admitted on the 27th or earlier will have payment continue for up to 30 calendar days.

Further details about the nature of the violations were not immediately available.

Community relations staff at Cottage had no comment on the development on Tuesday.
