The City of Galesburg has released its annual report which is full of information regarding successes in city government over the past year, as well as goals for the future.
Mayor Peter Schwartzman writes in the report’s opening pages that, “the past year saw a lot of changes in the elected body and with this came a shift towards more engaged and communicative governance.”
He says their strategic goals are “ambitious” and reflect a renewed and energized commitment by all City employees to make Galesburg an excellent City to work in, live in, and visit.
The report also features the 2022 Strategic plan that was passed by the Council Monday.
These are all generally measurable goals, although some are perception-based things for which surveys will be conducted.
For example, there’s a goal by 2027 to have the average City business owner rate the difficulty of filling positions to be a 3 or below.
There were 19 new full-time employees hired by the city in the past year.
The city issued nearly 400 building permits last year, along with 211 mechanical permits, 478 electrical permits and 787 plumbing permits.
The city continues to press ahead with either bringing dilapidated properties up to code or working to have them demolished.
Six demolitions were completed last year while 14 properties came into compliance.
