
The powerful tornado that touched down in the Lewistown area Tuesday evening has been classified as an EF-3, packing peak winds of 160 mph.
Four people were injured, one critically, as a damaging tornado made its way across Fulton County Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, the tornado initially touched down near Industry in McDonough County around 7 p.m. Tuesday. It moved east northeast to around Table Grove, Ipava and Lewistown in Fulton County. The tornado dissipated as it approached the Peoria metro area.
Fulton County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency reports four people were injured, one of them in critical condition.
Damaged areas include the northern Lewistown area, Table Grove area and Bryant area. As of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday there were approximately 300 homes without power.
There are multiple power poles and power lines down on Illinois 100. Heaviest damage appears to be in the Bryant area.
According to the Fulton County Emergency Services and Disaster Agency, Illinois 100 west of Bryant to IL 100/97 Junction north of Lewistown will be closed for the next few days. Utility crews from multiple power companies are on scene to restore the damaged poles on both sides of IL 100. No definite restore time is known, but utility companies are on scene working as quickly and safely as possible.
The National Weather Service has classified the Table Grove tornado as an EF-1 with peak winds of 110 mph. The Lewistown/Bryant twister was a powerful EF-3 with winds estimated to be 160 mph.
