One of downstate Illinois’ largest liquor stores is scheduled to open soon in Galesburg.

Originally projected to open this past December, Northern Illinois-based chain Liquor ‘n’ Wine says it expects to open its ninth store within 30 to 45 days at 1576 N. Henderson St., the former site of Northgate Lanes bowling center.

Liquor ’n’ Wine president and CEO Manish Patel tells WGIL difficulty obtaining building materials has delayed the project.

Original plans called for the complete demolition of the former bowling alley and attached restaurant, however Liquor ’n’ Wine president and CEO Manish Patel said they found the building to be structurally sound, so they will use the frame for its new facility.

Scooter’s ready to build in Galesburg … but new coffee drive-through stuck in red tape.

The new store will be about 40,000 square feet, including 27,000 square feet for the retail store that will carry around 4,000 items. A  10,000 seat rentable banquet space will would seat around 700 people.

Patel previously told WGIL, “There will be no liquor store this large within 150 miles of Galesburg. There are a couple of bigger liquor stores in the Chicagoland area, but this will be bigger than anything in Peoria or the Quad Cities.”

Other features will include an onsite bar lounge and walk-in cigar humidor.

Liquor ‘n’ Wine, which last month joined the Galesburg Area Chamber of Commerce, currently has locations in St. Charles, Rochelle, Geneva, Dixon, Genoa, Ottawa, Sterling and Pontiac.
