Galesburg Police Sunday morning responded to Hy-Vee on Home Boulevard for a well-being check after a caller reported an infant left in a car. Callers said the vehicle was not running and a window was cracked. Upon arrival, officers learned that the mother came back for the baby and had gone back into Hy-Vee. Police made contact the 33-year-old Galesburg woman who said she came to Hy-Vee to purchase diapers for her three-month-old daughter. The woman told police she forgot her daughter was in the vehicle because she was sleeping. The woman also said she thought she left her daughter at home with her other children. Based on security video and images, the baby was left in the vehicle alone for 22 minutes. Officers noted the baby was ok and happy when making contact. GHAS responded and did a well-being check on the child. The woman was charged with Endangering the Life or Health of a Child and DCFS was notified.
