Galesburg police have made two more arrests in regard to individuals trespassing and burglarizing the former St. Mary’s Square building. Around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday morning, GPD responded to the building at 239 South Cherry Street after the department received a tip that two people were breaking into the building and stealing copper. Police responded to the building and a 47-year-old woman was taken into custody. A pipe used for smoking meth was located in a backpack on the woman. Police searched the building room by room and found a living quarters on the 4th floor. Several personal items were located in the room including burglary tools, a military parachute full of copper, and a bag containing the wallet and ID of the 39-year-old male suspect police received the tip on. The man then surrendered to police. The man admitted that he had been living in the building for months and rigged the electricity so a room could have power. Both were charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. The man was also charged with possession of meth. The woman was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. This comes after a 61-year-old Galesburg man was arrested last Monday for burglarizing the building.
