A person who bought a scratch-off lottery ticket in Galesburg is instantly a quarter of a million dollars richer.

The Illinois Lottery announced Thursday that a winning ticket  in its $250,000 Crossword game was purchased at Hy-Vee, 2030 E. Main St. in Galesburg. The release did not specify what date the ticket was purchased.

The winner in Galesburg was one of three Illinois Lottery players who tried their luck with a $10 scratch-off ticket and wound up in the lottery winner’s circle.

The odds of winning the big prize in this game are 1 in 719,227.50. There were 16 total top-winners.

The East Main Hy-Vee store gets 1% of the prize amount, in this case, $2,500.

Last November, the Galesburg Hy-Vee Store on National Boulevard sold an Illinois scratch-off ticket that resulted in $3 million prize for the lucky winner.

And earlier this month, a $3 million ticket was sold at a gas station in Woodhull.

So far this year, over 54 million winning scratch-off lottery tickets have been sold, netting Illinois Lottery players over $1 billion in total prizes.

Winners have one year from the date of the winning draw in which to claim their prize.
