The California Zephyr turns 75, and there’s a celebration in Galesburg

Marc Magliari, Amtrak Media Relations, joined Galesburg's Morning News to talk about a celebration in Galesburg on Tuesday (March 19) marking the 1949 California Zephyr Inaugural Run.

Three railroads worked together 75 years ago this week to create what continues to be an iconic route between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay.

Celebrations of the train’s anniversary will take place Tuesday aboard the westbound train and at Amtrak stations in three Illinois cities.

At Chicago, aboard the train, and in Galesburg, Tom Whitt, President of the Burlington Route Historical Society, will present a history of the service. Mementos and refreshments will be distributed.
