
A Galesburg resident affectionately known as “The Ice Cream Man” has died.
Jerry Knowles, who owned and operated Kastle Kreme on West Main Street for 33 years, died Wednesday in Galesburg. He was 87.
After retiring, Jerry and Nell Knowles bought Kastle Kreme in 1977. Nell worked at the store and did the book work while Jerry managed the store.
Knowles managed Kastle Kreme for 33 years and sold the business in 2010.
According to his obituary, Knowles was loved by many customers, coworkers and neighbors. He was often seen in the parking lot talking to his customers that he loved very much.
Funeral services for Jerry Knowles will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
