A new era of Galesburg girls basketball – Coach Lexi Demott

For the first time in 46 years, Galesburg High School has a new girls basketball coach. But she’s no stranger to Silver Streaks fans.

Lexi Demott — a former Silver Streaks player and for the last four years an assistant coach under legendary Coach Evan Massey — was named Galesburg’s new head girls basketball coach on Monday, April 8, 2024.

She will be just the third coach in program history since Galesburg fielded its first girls basketball team in 1972.

Lexi Daniels played four seasons and was a 3-year starter for the Streaks from 2012-2016. She was known as a great 3-pointer shooter, a scorer and a team leader.

She was also the preferred choice of Massey to replace him atop one of the most successful girls basketball programs in Illinois history.

Lexi joins WGIL's Jay Redfern to talk Silver Streaks girls basketball and more on this episode of Galesburg In Focus.
