
A man remains hospitalized in a Peoria hospital following a late Saturday night shooting in the first block of South Cherry Street.
According to a new release, Galesburg Police responded to a report of a shooting in the first block of South Cherry Street around 11:48 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, a victim of a gunshot wound was located in the street.
Officers provided lifesaving treatment until medical personnel could arrive. The 45-year-old man victim was transported to OSF St. Mary Medical Center and then to OSF St. Francis in Peoria. He remains in the hospital receiving treatment.
Galesburg Police Chief Russ Idle said an investigation into the matter indicates the incident resulted from a dispute between the shooting victim and another individual. Idle said there is no evidence of an ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing, and charges are pending.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Illinois State Police assisted the GPD in the handling of the incident.
