Pritzker for VP? Probably not, says analyst

Depending on whose reporting or speculation you want to believe, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker either is or isn’t on the short list of potential running mates for Vice President Kamala Harris as she’s now reportedly secured enough delegate votes to run for President.

But, would he want to give up being Governor to become VP? Monmouth College political science professor Robin Johnson doesn’t think so.

“I don’t know about Pritzker…he seems more of an executive type and not the number two type,” said Johnson.  “Who knows if it’s offered.”

Pritzker has long said he wants to continue serving as Governor of Illinois. But, Johnson says Pritzker’s ambition and certainly his money would make him good for the ticket.

But, there’s another down side.

“Illinois really isn’t a competitive state in national elections,” said Johnson, on Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL.  “I think that’s why a lot of attention has been focused on people like (Pennsylvania Governor Josh) Shapiro, and (Michigan Governor Gretchen) Whitmer, and the Governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper.”

As mentioned earlier, Pritzker’s money as a billionaire may be attractive for a Presidential ticket, said Johnson.  But, he says that’s because it takes a lot of money to put on a Presidential campaign right now, which he believes is unfortunate.
