City Matters: Gambling machines, Galesburg’s annual budget, and tax levy rate

  • A possible ordinance to implement a moratorium on the number of video gambling machines in Galesburg. How did the proposed ordinance land on the agenda for discussion tonight?
  • Galesburg aldermen will discuss the 2024 Property Tax Levy Ordinance. This is a subject that impacts a lot of people, but many don't really understand how this works. What are some of the the misconceptions about the property tax process?
  • The FY 2025 budget for Galesburg is available for inspection. Where is the city at in the process, and what does the city manager consider some of the highlights?
  • The city manager and director of finance recommend the approval of the various rates and fees for 2025. Hanson will discuss how the increase in minimum wage impacts the rates.
