Knox jazz residency ends with free concert at The Orpheum

Andy Crawford, Managing Director of the Music Performance Program at Knox College, joined Galesburg's Morning News to discuss the Jerome Mirza Jazz Residency concert scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24, at The Orpheum. Celebrating its 12th year, this residency honors Jerome Mirza, supported by the Mirza Foundation, and features renowned jazz artists alongside active participation from Knox College students.

Crawford shared insights into the workshops currently taking place, such as sessions on the history of blues, scatting techniques, and roles within a band, all led by acclaimed saxophonist and singer Camille Thurman. The residency also includes outreach programs for local schools, highlighting the importance of community engagement.

The main concert promises an exciting evening with performances from the Knox Jazz Ensemble, along with Camille Thurman and the Darrell Green Quartet.  Friday's free concert starts at 7 p.m. at The Orpheum.
