Play ball! Streaks set to open 2025 baseball season

Believe it or not, baseball isnt just around the corner anymore, it’s here.

With Galesburg High School set to open the 2025 season Thursday through Saturday at the Metro East Classic near St. Louis, Silver Streaks head coach Jeremy Pickrel joined WGIL's Jay Redfern on Galesburg's Morning News to preview the season.

A notable change this year is the shift from Saturday Western Big 6 Conference doubleheaders to Monday and Wednesday games, a move intended to better align with postseason opponents and open weekends for tournaments.

Pickrel emphasized the team's focus, the importance of scoring at least five runs per game, and expressed excitement about upcoming facility upgrades, including  artificial turf for Jim Sundberg Field after the season.

The Silver Streaks begin their season with nine road games before their home opener on April 2.
