Galesburg firefighters rally community for Fill the Boot campaign

On this episode of Galesburg's Morning News, we’re joined by Galesburg Firefighter TJ Scott, the new Fill the Boot Coordinator for the IAFF 8th District, and Deputy Chief of Operations Brock Schmitt. They preview the Galesburg Fire Department’s annual Fill the Boot campaign, raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The campaign runs the next three Fridays—August 22, 29, and September 5—building on last year’s $31,000 haul, which ranked Galesburg second in Illinois, just behind Chicago.

The discussion celebrates the fire department’s legacy, from its first Fill the Boot in 1954 to raising over $618,000 since 1997. Funds aid 29 Galesburg families with MDA services, supporting care, research, and advocacy for neuromuscular diseases.
