Have your say: IDOT sets Nov. 20 open house for $30M East Main & Grand Avenue rebuild

The Illinois Department of Transportation will host an open house public meeting later this month to discuss a major $30 million reconstruction of U.S. Route 150 in Galesburg, including East Main Street and Grand Avenue.

When: Thursday, Nov. 20, 2025 | 5–7 p.m.
Where: King Elementary School Gymnasium
Address: 1018 S. Farnham St., Galesburg

The meeting will feature project exhibits and IDOT staff available for questions. No formal presentation is planned — attendees can drop in anytime to review plans and provide input.

Project Scope: 2.2 Miles of U.S. Route 150

  • East Main Street – Allens Avenue to Grand Avenue
  • Grand Avenue – Main Street to Logistics Parkway/Knox County Highway 32

Proposed Improvements

  • Full roadway reconstruction with new pavement, curb and gutter, and storm sewer
  • New sidewalks and shared-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists
  • Intersection upgrades for improved traffic flow and safety

Proposed traffic impact: It is proposed to temporarily close Grand Avenue to westbound traffic during reconstruction of the roadway to reduce construction duration and cost.

This project is included in IDOT’s FY 2026–2031 plan, with construction expected in 2027–2031. The City of Galesburg will separately replace water mains along the route using local funds, with minimal city cost for the roadwork itself.
