The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team dropped to 25 - 4 on the season and finishes the Western Big 6 slate 11 - 3, with a 54 - 53 loss Thursday night to the Rock Island Rocks on their Senior Night. The Streaks overcame adversity and some self-inflicted wounds in the 1st half to claw their way back late in the game with a chance to win it, but came up just short.
The leading scorer for the Silver Streaks and in the game was Zaniyah Carter with 20 points, both Jozalyn Kilgore and Khloe May had 9, Taylor Herchenroder had 6, Ella Herchenroder finished with 5, and both Lily Furrow and Ellie Johnson scored 2 points. Overall, it was a tough shooting night for the Streaks with 20 of 56 from the field, 8 of 26 from three-point range, and 5 of 8 from the free throw line. They pulled down 28 rebounds, had 14 assists, and committed 13 turnovers while forcing 19 by the Rocks.
With an incredible 2nd half, shooting 6 0f 7 from the field and draining 5 three-pointers, Zaniyah Carter was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. In addition to the game-high 20 points scored, she had a couple of rebounds, an assist and a steal.
