Miltina “Mitzi” Campbell died peacefully on March 24, 2026, at the age of 88, surrounded by her loving family and the legacy of love she built throughout her life.
She was born June 26, 1937, in Dexter, Missouri, the daughter of Milton Earl and Mabel Gladys (McKee) Malone. She married Walter Lawrence Tarleton on November 28, 1958, in Galesburg, and together they had three children. She later married Dr. David George Campbell on September 25, 1986, and they shared a loving marriage until the end of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years, David; six children, Kathy (David) Tolley of Avon, Illinois; Michele (Gordon) Loux of Buchanan, Michigan; Tim (Trish) Tarleton of Zion, Illinois; Enya (Chuck) McNamara of Aledo, Texas; Kyle (Gordon) Barr of Safety Harbor, Florida; and Deanne (David) Ricco of Sagamore Hills, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Keree (David) Gray, Brooke (Aaron) Whitelock, Joe (Jenna) Tolley, Luke (Chrissy) Tolley, Seth (Abby) Tolley, Hope (Joe) Mayo, Evan Kvach, Lincoln Tarleton, and Maggie Tarleton; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Karen (Robert) Nelson of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and Beth (Guy) Achey of Fox River Grove, Illinois; and cherished nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Gloria Sue Jurek.
Mitzi’s passion for caring for others guided her path throughout life. After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1955, she completed her nursing education at Cottage Hospital School of Nursing and later earned her bachelor’s degree from Bradley University. She spent 29 years as a devoted and accomplished registered nurse at Galesburg Cottage Hospital and continued her service at Mercy Memorial Hospital in Monroe, Michigan, until retiring in 1999.
Mitzi’s life was grounded in faith and a commitment to serving others. While living in Galesburg, she shared her love of music as a member of the Sweet Adelines. She and David were members of Southwest Christian Church in Ocala, Florida. Together, Mitzi and David supported several church communities with compassion and care, with David as an interim pastor and Mitzi leading women’s Bible studies. Mitzi also volunteered in hospice care. They were also active with Mobile Missionaries, traveling in their mobile home and providing construction labor for church camps. Through faith, service, and love, Mitzi touched countless lives wherever she went.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services of Galesburg, with funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
