In this episode of Galesburg’s Morning News, Pastor Ric Fritz, leader of New Harvest Church and President of the Abingdon Community Center, details the revival of the former Abingdon Care Center. Nearly shuttered in 2021, the facility at 801 W. Martin St. now hosts six small businesses, including a chiropractor, boutique, and salon, with a grand opening set for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 15-16. A $13,000 Turn-Out Grant from the Galesburg Community Foundation, fully funded and presented by Dave Dunn of Dave’s Auto Body, will fund climate control units and community space furnishings, enabling further growth. The Center also houses the Cupboard and Closet food and clothing bank and serves as Abingdon’s polling place. Fritz emphasizes the need for ongoing community support to maintain this vibrant hub.
