Bishop Hill’s Doodle Fest: Folk music and community spirit

In this episode of Galesburg’s Morning News, Todd DeDecker, administrator of the Bishop Hill Heritage Association, previews the free Doodle Folk Music Festival on Saturday, May 31, in Bishop Hill’s village park. Named after the village’s first folk musician, Jonas Danielson, known as Doodle, the festival features Illinois’ top folk artists, including Barry Cloyd, Bucky Halker, Chris Vallillo’s bottleneck slide guitar, and the Bucktown Americana Music Show, performing bluegrass, Celtic, and Americana from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. DeDecker shares details on the historic gazebo display honoring Doodle, P.L. Johnson’s reservation-only dinner party with Swedish meatballs and pavlova, and how this community-funded event celebrates Bishop Hill’s cultural heritage.
