Catching up with Josh Eiker: Galesburg’s fastest man

Josh Eiker just may be Galesburg’s fastest man EVER. And he has the records and medals to prove it.

A 2016 Galesburg High School graduate, Josh Eiker is one of the most talented athletes to ever compete in Illinois track and field. He won state titles in both the 100 and 200 meters both his junior and senior year. Impressively, he did it in Class 2A his junior year and in Class 3A his senior year.

He remains the fastest 200-meter runner in Illinois high school history with a time of 20.83 seconds in April 2016. Back then, the time was the 8th best in the nation.

A 2021 inductee of the Galesburg Athletic Hall of Fame, Josh still owns five outdoor track records at GHS — the 100, 200, 400, and as a member of the 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams.

He went on to a successful but unfortunately injury-riddled career running track at the University of Illinois.

Josh Eiker earned his Bachelors Degree in Sports Management and a Masters Degree in Strategic Brand Communication from the U of I, and is currently an E-Commerce Analyst for The Libman Company, based in Arcola — just south of Champaign.

Josh Eiker joined WGIL's Jay Redfern to talk being one of the most dominant track athletes in Galesburg and Illinois history, how he had a future in football, if he thinks his records will ever be broken and more.
