Dave ‘Louie’ Nichols: Galesburg Gridiron Great

Dave “Louie” Nichols, a 1968 Galesburg High School graduate, was an all-state halfback for the Silver Streaks. He gained just short of 3,000 yards, averaged 100 yards a game and helped lead the Streaks to back-to-back 8-1 seasons in 1966 and 67 for Coach C.C. Van Dyke.

A member of the Galesburg Athletic Hall of Fame, he went on to play both football and baseball at Illinois State, helping the Redbirds win the 1969 College Division World Series.

Nichols joined WGIL's Jay Redfern via phone for a conversation that first aired at halftime of WGIL's coverage of the Galesburg vs. Quincy football game.
