A photo found in the basement of a downtown Galesburg store is now a 5-by-8-foot mural hanging at Discovery Depot Children’s Museum, 128 S. Chambers St. Denise Gerstenberger, the museum’s executive director; her husband Steve Gerstenberger, a longtime board member; and Galesburg artist Dusty Scott joined Galesburg’s Morning News on Monday, Aug. 10, to talk about the mural, commissioned to mark Discovery Depot’s 30th anniversary.
They talked about:
- The building’s history as a Meadow Gold Dairy, and what’s still preserved from that era today
- How a 2013 basement discovery turned into a museum centerpiece
- Dusty Scott’s process for finishing an incomplete, decades-old photograph
