Festival of Voices: 230 Singers, One Unforgettable Night in Galesburg

This episode of Galesburg's Morning News features Galesburg Community Chorus as they launch their 80th anniversary season with the monumental Festival of Voices — a free, all-ages choral event featuring over 230 singers from six local choirs, including middle schoolers, college ensembles, and lifelong community voices.

In this episode, Dr. Tim Pahel (25 years as Artistic Director) and Will Culbertson (Chorus President) pull back the curtain on:

  • The record-breaking 230+ voice finale of Let There Be Peace on Earth, performed in full 360-degree surround inside the acoustically stunning First Presbyterian Church
  • How a non-audition, everyone-welcome chorus spans 6th graders to a singer in her 90s
  • The strategic evolution toward pop, jazz, multimedia, and poetry to engage younger audiences
  • Why Galesburg punches way above its weight in the arts (shoutout to Prairie Players, Orpheum, Nova Singers, and more)
  • The charity drive for Blessings in a Backpack — bring soup or cash.
