For most of the game it was a back-and-forth battle with ten lead changes and five ties in the game, and at the end of the 3rd quarter it was tied at 44. But the Silver Streaks poured it on in the 4th quarter and outscored the Pioneers 20-9 to clinch the win. Galesburg's efficiency on offense, shooting 60% from the field in the last quarter, boxing out for rebounds, and on defense, forcing Alleman into taking poor shots, including going 0 for 5 from 3-point range, all led to a Streaks 11 point victory.
Scoring leaders for the Silver Streaks included five players in double figures. Ian Dominique and Jackson Crock Sibbing both finished with 14 points, Gino Williams and Tyree Taylor both scored 12 points, and Jace Keith had 10 points. Gino and Jace had a double-double in stats with 11 and 10 rebounds respectively. The Streaks made 87% of their free throw shots, going 13 of 15 in the game. And they out-rebounded the Pioneers by 21, pulling down 40 rebounds to Alleman's 19.
After a season of personal adversity dealing with an injury, returning to the starting lineup on Senior Night and knocking down some big-time shots, Ian Dominique was named the Dave’s Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game.
Next up for Galesburg is the opening round of Regionals on Monday (2/19) night, which they will host at John Thiel Gym in a rematch with Geneseo. The Streaks just got a win over the Maple Leafs last Friday night. Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels will bring you the action starting with the pregame at 5:40 Monday night on 93.7 FM & 1400 AM WGIL, as well as streaming on wgil.com.
