Galesburg Boys Remain Winless in Western Big 6

For the first time in about a month, the Galesburg boys basketball team hosted a home game at John Thiel Gym Friday night. But the home court advantage wasn't able to help them overcome a sharp-shooting Rock Island team as the the Silver Streaks fell 79-48 to the Rocks.

Galesburg fought hard in the 1st half and kept it a game, but with 57% shooting from the field and 63% shooting from the free throw line, the Rocks pulled away in the 2nd half. The Silver Streaks drop to 5 - 15 on the season, and 0 - 6 in conference play.

Senior Gino Williams was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch-Time Player of the Game. He played hard and with purpose finishing with 14 points and leading the Streaks in rebounds with 9.

The night at John Thiel Gym was a Gold-Out Game hosted by "Give Back, Galesburg". Through t-shirt sales, a live auction, and other events, $4,303 was raised for the OSF Kleine Pediatric Wellness Center.

The Silver Streaks begin a six game road trip Tuesday (1/23) night when they head to Quincy High School to take on the Blue Devils in another Western Big 6 conference game. Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels will bring you the action starting with the pregame at 6:40 Tuesday night on 93.7 FM & 1400 AM  WGIL, as well as streaming on wgil.com.
