Galesburg Reads, a program of the Galesburg Public Library made possible by an Illinois Humanities grant, is hosting a series of events in April.
Kayla Whitmer, Reference Department Supervisor at the Galesburg Public Library, joined Galesburg's Morning News to talk about Galesburg Reads.
The year's theme centers on themes of justice and incarceration. The program features book discussions of Correction by Ben Austen, Exoneree Diaries by Alison Flowers, and The Bezzle by Cory Doctorow, as well as the youth title From the Desk of Zoe Washington.
Community engagement includes craft workshops, a movie screening of Just Mercy, a virtual discussion with Ben Austen, and a book drive for the Knox County Jail. The program culminates in a finale where participants can write letters to incarcerated individuals.
