Adam Seaney, vocational director of the Galesburg Area Vocational Center, joined Galesburg's Morning News for a year-in-review of the 2024-25 school year.
Seaney shared how GAVC’s enrollment surged to 424 students, a nearly 75% increase over five years, reflecting the growing appeal of Career Technical Education (CTE).
A highlight was the May 13 CTE Signing Day, where 74 seniors were celebrated for pursuing CTE careers, joined by postsecondary and industry partners. GAVC students excelled in SkillsUSA, with a 3rd-place finish in Teamworks construction and a 4th-place in Related Technical Math, earning a spot at nationals.
Looking ahead to 2025-26, GAVC expects 450-460 students, with new programs like a second year of Building Trades offering OSHA 30 certification and a Medical Assisting program.
Seaney discussed plans to expand employability skills, work-based learning, and industry connections, emphasizing GAVC’s role in preparing students from nine high schools for diverse careers.
