Here is a recap of tonight’s game courtesy of WGIL’s Brad Bennewitz:

“Everything looked well for the Galesburg Silver Streaks who had a 21-14 lead over the Rock Island Rocks at halftime and scored on their first possession of the second half to take a 28-14 lead. But then the Rocks stormed back, scoring 21 consecutive points and the defense shut down Galesburg, which the Rocks were unable to do in the first half, eventually took a 35-28 lead. Galesburg responded with a scoring drive to tie the game at 35, DeAndre Moren ran in a 33yd touchdown that tied it up at 35, but the Rocks, again, came back. With 3:40 to go in the game, Rock Island put together a 14 play scoring drive that covered 64yds and a 9yd touchdown pass put them up 41-35 and left the Streaks with only 12 seconds to run the kick-off back, and eventually 6.5 seconds to run their only play from scrimmage, which was a pass completion to Nick Myler but the Streaks got only about 25yds of the 74 they needed to have a chance to tie the game.

“So Galesburg loses a heart breaker at home to Rock Island 41-35. Both the Rocks and the Streaks are now 3-1 in the Western Big 6 with a 1 game lead over Moline, Quincy, and Alleman with 1 week to play. And Galesburg, Rock Island, and Quincy are all 4-3 overall with playoff implications on the line, especially when the Streaks travel down to Quincy next Friday night. But Rock Island is in the driver’s seat with both teams tied at 3-1, but the Rocks defeated Galesburg, they have advantage of the tie-breaker. Sophomores also lost 26-7. It was just a tough night overall for the Galesburg football program as the Varsity drops it 41-35.”
