Honoring Harrel W. Timmons: Galesburg’s Aviation Legend

In this WGIL interview on Galesburg's Morning News, we sit down with Harrel W. Timmons, the namesake of the Harrel W. Timmons Galesburg Regional Airport, ahead of its dedication ceremony on September 5, 2025, during the 54th Annual National Stearman Fly-In. Timmons founded Jet Air Inc. in 1969, serving as its president until 2023 and transforming the airport into a hub for recreational pilots, corporations, and businesses. With well over 20,000 flying hours, an airline transport pilot certificate, and roles as an FAA-designated pilot examiner and flight instructor, he has mentored countless aviation professionals and earned induction into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame in 2011. A key figure in the Stearman Fly-In since 1971, Timmons discusses his career, the airport’s 2023 FAA regional status upgrade, and Galesburg’s aviation legacy. Join us to celebrate a true community icon.
