In Focus: Galesburg Mayor Peter Schwartzman

Galesburg Mayor Peter Schwartzman joins WGIL’s Jay Redfern for this episode of Galesburg In Focus.

Schwartzman was elected Mayor of Galesburg in 2021 after serving the previous 10 years as the city’s Ward 5 alderman. He has has a long track record of community involvement and service.

But while the job of mayor may seem like a full time career, Schwartzman does have an office other than the one he occupies at City Hall. A job at Knox College brought him to Galesburg in 1998, and he remains at the school as Professor of Environmental Studies.

In this episode, Schwartzman talks about how he got into city politics, the role of a mayor, the hot-button topic of a proposed community center, whether he plans to run for re-election and more.
