Knox County Miss Juneteenth Pageant — empowering young women through history and leadership

Pam Davidson, organizer of the second annual Knox County Miss Juneteenth Pageant, joined Galesburg’s Morning News on Wednesday, June 10 to preview the event ahead of Saturday’s pageant at the Knox College Center for Fine Arts.

The pageant is Saturday, June 13. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the program begins at 5. Free to attend. Donations are welcome.

Davidson talks about the history of Juneteenth, how the pageant came together, what the 12 contestants go through in the weeks of preparation, and what she hopes the community takes away from the experience. She also shares a moving story from last year’s Junior Miss winner that captures exactly what the pageant is trying to do.

Age divisions: Little Miss (ages 5–9), Junior Miss (ages 10–14), Miss (ages 15–18). Emceed by Jarvis Hodges.
