REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks boys basketball @ Alleman

The Galesburg boys basketball team passed its first road-test of the season, opening their Western Big 6 Conference season with a 75 - 55 win on the road at Rock Island Alleman. Galesburg is 4 - 0 on the season and 1 - 0 in conference play.
The Silver Streaks led the entire game, but Alleman as energetic, organized, and as fundamental as an Alleman team we've seen, came out shooting the ball in bunches. They made the Streaks work. It was just a 4-point game early in the 2nd quarter. Then Galesburg had a couple of short runs, and ended up leading by 11-points at halftime, 43 - 32. Alleman was still hanging around down 8-points in the 3rd quarter when Galesburg put together its most meaningful run, scoring 11 straight points to open up a 19-point lead and cruise the rest of the way for the win.
Great stats all over the scoresheet for the Silver Streaks. Cesaire Bile scored a career-high on the varsity level with 27 points. He also finished with 6 rebounds and was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. Keigen Crummer didn't miss a shot until the 4th quarter. He finished with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds. Overall, Galesburg was 26 of 64 from the field, 9 of 21 from beyond the arc, and 14 of 19 from the free-throw line. They pulled down 47 rebounds, had 16 assists, and committed 16 turnovers.
Next up for the Silver Streaks, Rock Island comes to John Thiel Gym Tuesday (12/09) night. Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels will bring you all the action starting with the pregame at 6:40 Tuesday night on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL and wgil.com.

REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks boys basketball vs Pekin

The Galesburg High School boys basketball team finished off a successful three-game homestand with a 63 - 42 victory over the visiting Pekin Dragons. The Silver Streaks out-scored the Dragons 14 - 0 to finish off the first half. They opened up a four-point lead to an eighteen-point lead by halftime and were never threatened the rest of the way.
Jaxon Wyatt was the offensive catalyst in the 2nd quarter when he put up 10 of his 16 points, and for that, he was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. Jaxon was also the leading rebounder for Galesburg with seven.
To start the 2nd half, Keigan Crummer scored 11 points in the 3rd quarter and he finished with a game-high 17 points for the Streaks. Once again, the Streaks shot better than 50% in the game with 28 out of 55 from the field, 4 of 8 from the free-throw line, but just 3 out of 15 from three-point range. Overall the offense didn't look quite as crisp, but it was really the defense that got the job done.
Next up for the Silver Streaks, they take to the road for the first time this season for their Western Big 6 Conference opener against Rock Island Alleman. Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels will bring you all the action starting with the pregame at 6:40 Friday night (12/05) on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL and wgil.com.
REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks girls basketball @ Dunlap

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team moved to 6 - 0 on the season Tuesday night when they traveled to Dunlap High School and picked-up a 51 - 37 victory over the Eagles.
Leading the way for the Streaks was Jozalyn Kilgore with 13 points. Ella Herchenroder scored 11 points, and Lily Furrow finished with 8 points. Overall the team was 16 of 41 from the field, 3 of 12 from beyond the arc, and 15 of 21 from the free throw line. They pulled down 33 rebounds, had 13 assists, and turned the ball over 14 times.
Providing a spark off the bench in the 2nd quarter, Ellie Johnson was named the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game. She finished the night with 6 points, a couple of rebounds and an assist, but most importantly, when her team needed it, she stepped up and made a big impact.
The Galesburg girls will be back in action Thursday (12/04) night when they take on Sterling. Pregame coverage begins at 6:45pm Thursday with Mitch McVey and Jason Wessels on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL and wgil.com.

REPLAY: GHS Silver Streaks boys basketball vs Madison | Galesburg Thanksgiving Tournament

The GHS boys basketball team dominated against the Madison Trojans at the Galesburg Thanksgiving Tournament Friday night. The Silver Streaks won, 69 - 25. That ended up being a premature end to the tournament as all of the games for Saturday (11/29) were canceled due to the impending winter storm.
It was a team effort with balanced scoring and rebounding by Galesburg. Once again, Cesaire Bile led the Streaks in scoring with 17 points, Jaxon Wyatt contributed 15, Tobi Kivunina finished with 9, and Stone Thiel scored 8 points. Cesaire also led in the rebounding with 7. Overall, the Silver Streaks were 26 of 52 from the field, 6 of 17 from three-point range, and 11 of 15 from the free throw line. They pulled down 41 rebounds, had 15 assists, and committed 16 turnovers.
Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels named senior Tobi Kivunina as the Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game! Toby scored 9 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had a steal. One of the other reasons he was awarded the honor was for the energy he brought off the bench and his strong play as point guard in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. His role on the team is expanding considerably from where he was last year.
Next up for the Silver Streaks is a non-conference game with their long-time rivals from Pekin High School on Tuesday 12/02 night. With the GHS girls playing at the same time, the boys game will be on 92.7 FM The Laser, starting with the pregame at about 6:40pm.

In their first game under new head coach Taylor Thiel, the Silver Streaks boys team beat the Limestone Rockets, 86-60. The game was tight throughout the first quarter, but a 10-2 run in the second energized the team for the rest of the way.
Three Silver Streaks finished with 20 or more points on the night. Cesaire Bile led the Streaks with 23 points and added 7 rebounds. Jaxon Wyatt contributed with 21 points and 9 rebounds, and Keigen Crummer finished with a career-high 20. Galesburg as a team shot 32 of 59 from the field, 12 of 27 from three, and 10 of 14 from the line. The Streaks nabbed 36 rebounds, had 19 assists, and only turned the ball over 13 times.
The first Dave's Auto Body Crunch Time Player of the Game for the season went to Keigen Crummer. Along with his career-high in points, he finished the game with 5 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals as he started his senior season in style.
The Silver Streaks return to action on Friday when they take on the Madison Trojans to start the Thanksgiving Tournament. Brad Bennewitz and Jason Wessels will bring you all the action beginning with the pregame at 5:40PM on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL, as well as wgil.com
